Disability & Inclusion Information

Disability & Inclusion

At Brauer College, we are committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued, supported and able to participate fully in school life. We recognise that every student has unique strengths, interests and learning needs, and we work collaboratively with students, families and external professionals to ensure each student has the opportunity to achieve their personal best.

Our Disability & Inclusion team coordinates and supports a range of programs and initiatives, including:

  • Disability Inclusion (Disability Inclusion Profile – DIP)
  • Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
  • Victorian Autism Education Strategy
  • Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) (for students funded under the previous model)
  • Out of Home Care supports
  • Individual Education Planning and Student Support Group coordination

Working in Partnership

We believe that the best outcomes for students are achieved through strong partnerships between the student, their family or carers, the school and relevant external professionals.

Student Support Group (SSG) meetings are an important part of this partnership. These meetings provide an opportunity to celebrate student strengths, discuss progress, identify any emerging needs and collaboratively plan the adjustments and supports required for success.

Where appropriate, students are supported through an Individual Education Plan (IEP), which outlines personalised learning goals, reasonable adjustments and strategies to support their academic, social, emotional and wellbeing outcomes.

Disability Inclusion at Brauer College

Brauer College has embraced the Victorian Government's Disability Inclusion reforms, which strengthen the support available for students with disability and additional learning needs.

The Disability Inclusion reforms focus on:

  • understanding each student's strengths and learning needs
  • identifying the reasonable adjustments required for successful participation
  • building teacher capability through professional learning and coaching
  • improving inclusive teaching practices across the school
  • ensuring students can fully participate in learning and school life.

Since 2025, the Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP) has replaced the former Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) application process. The Disability Inclusion Profile helps schools, families and allied health professionals work together to identify a student's functional strengths and areas of need, ensuring appropriate adjustments and resources are available to support their learning and wellbeing.

Over time, families of eligible students may be invited to participate in a Disability Inclusion Profile meeting as part of this process.

Building an Inclusive School

Funding and supports available through the Disability Inclusion reforms enable Brauer College to continue strengthening inclusive education by:

  • providing professional learning and coaching for teachers and school staff
  • accessing specialist advice and expertise
  • employing additional staff to support students and classroom programs
  • implementing evidence-based adjustments and interventions
  • providing resources that improve access, participation and engagement for students with disability.

Our Commitment

At Brauer College, we are committed to ensuring every student experiences a genuine sense of belonging, feels safe and respected, and has equitable access to learning. Through strong partnerships with families and a whole-school approach to inclusion, we strive to create an environment where every student is supported to learn, participate and thrive.
